In-N-Out Gift Cards

An In-N-Out gift card is the easiest correct gift in the western United States. Cards are sold in restaurants and through the official website, work at any location, and — unlike the burgers — never go stale in a drawer: current cards do not expire.

Checking your balance

Two ways: ask at any register (the crew will swipe and tell you), or use the gift-card balance checker on the official In-N-Out website with the card number and the PIN hidden under the scratch strip on the back. Keep the card even at a zero balance until you are sure no refund is pending to it — refunds for card purchases return to the card.

Buying cards

Physical cards sit at every register in standard denominations, and digital cards are emailed through the official site. Corporate and bulk orders are handled through the company's gift card program. One warning that matters: never buy "discounted" In-N-Out cards from auction or resale sites — drained and cloned cards are a persistent scam, and the chain cannot restore a balance bought second-hand.

Using the card well

A $15 card covers a Double-Double combo with room to spare in most states; $25 covers two people eating burgers, fries and drinks. If a balance falls a few cents short, the register can split payment between the card and cash or a bank card — just ask before they run it.

Lost, stolen or not working?

Treat the card like cash — a lost card with a balance is usually gone for good, which is why photographing the back of the card (number and PIN) when you receive one is a thirty-second insurance policy. A card that will not scan can usually be keyed in manually by the crew from the number, so a photo genuinely saves the balance. Damaged-card replacements are handled at the restaurant's discretion, in person.

Corporate and bulk cards

Businesses buying cards in volume — employee rewards, client gifts, event goodie bags — go through the company's bulk gift card program rather than a register, with denominations and invoicing set up for accounting. It is a quietly popular program in the chain's home states, where a $15 card that covers a full combo is the rare corporate gift nobody regifts.

How do I check an In-N-Out gift card balance?

Balances can be checked in any restaurant at the register, and via the gift card section of the official In-N-Out website using the card number and PIN from the back of the card.

Do In-N-Out gift cards expire?

In-N-Out gift cards sold in recent years do not expire and carry no dormancy fees in most states. Very old promotional cards can differ — the terms printed with your card are the final word.

Can I buy a gift card online?

Physical and digital gift cards are sold through the official In-N-Out website and in restaurants, in standard denominations. Be cautious with third-party resellers — discounted gift cards are a common scam category.
